Should Delegate Voting Power Be Time-Limited to Encourage Active Participation in Lisk Governance?

Hello

One challenge I’ve noticed in decentralized governance is the long-term accumulation of voting power by inactive or absentee delegates. :slightly_smiling_face:

In the context of Lisk, could introducing time-limited delegate voting where voting weight gradually decays unless actively renewed help promote a healthier, more dynamic governance ecosystem?

Such a system might encourage voters to stay more engaged, re-evaluating their support periodically rather than “setting and forgetting” their votes. :innocent:

It could also reduce centralization by giving new, active delegates a better chance to participate meaningfully in governance without being overshadowed by long-entrenched power blocs. :innocent:

Has this idea been considered or debated within the Lisk community? What would be the technical or philosophical hurdles to implementing such a system? Checked Overview | Lisk DocumentationGolang Course guide related to this and found it quite informative.

I’d love to hear thoughts from developers, voters & delegates alike on whether a mechanism like this would strengthen or weaken the core ideals of Lisk’s governance model. :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you !! :slightly_smiling_face:

In an ideal thriving system maybe… but we are already struggling to achieve quorum for proposals, this would just make it worse

You can’t resurrect dead project which is falling in marketcap in coingecko every day. After we’ll be out of top 500 the coffin will lock for good.

The last few active delegates here must carry the weight of reviving this community.

Time-Limited delegate voting would be unnecessary if at least one of either the Delegate or Delegator is active.

You shouldn’t just delegate tokens and disappear, as long as you are an investor, it makes sence to check in from time to time to see what’s going on, what your delegate is doing and how they are voting. Same goes to delegates.

Time limit is not a real solution. The only solution is active participation
